At SAS Creative, we live by the mantra of ‘work hard, play hard’ and hence try to incorporate sports into how we roll here. However, as we got together to play beach tag rugby one evening, we were disheartened to realise the damage Sri Lankans have caused to our coastline. As socially, and environmentally responsible citizens of Sri Lanka, we have decided that it is high time we play our part in managing waste in our beaches. In fact, it seems like yesterday that Sri Lanka faced the ‘worst-ever beach pollution’ from the cargo ship fire, which ranked us high among the most polluted beaches in the world. This being the reason, SAS Creative carefully evaluated and came up with the long term project – ‘SAStaining Clean Shores’.

‘SAStaining Clean Shores’ project focuses on coastal pollution happening around Sri Lanka. We aim to cover 20% of the coastline by 2024, through well organised beach cleanup programmes with one cleanup in every 2 months.

We are planning to launch this programme on 26th of January 2022 with the mentorship of Dr. Randika Jayasinghe who is an advocate for sustainable waste management, waste upcycling and waste-based business development, eco-designs and innovations, materials development, and circular economy. Together we hope to protect our shores, with the vision of being a catalyst in significantly reducing coastal pollution.
